Herbs for Pets
As a pet owner, there are a number of herbs for pets you should keep on hand. Herbs can help to keep your pet healthy and can be used as treatment for some illnesses. Pet owners are turning to more holistic pet regimens for overall health because they are effective and safe to use.
Bee Pollen
Bee pollen is an excellent source of nutrients for pets. It contains nearly 40 percent protein and is a good source of Vitamins A, C, D, E and B complex. It is able to keep the cardiovascular system healthy and helps to strengthen the respiratory system.
Brewers Yeast
Brewer's yeast is an excellent solution for pets who are struggling with fleas. Fleas and their bites cause an allergic reaction in pets. Use one teaspoon or one tablet per day, working it into their coat as a detergent. This reduces itching and wards off flea infestations.
Aloe
Aloe is a good option for pets who suffer from cuts or abrasions. Use fresh aloe if possible. Simply massage into the affected area. It has a cooling sensation and will help to keep the area moist so that it can heal quickly.
Lavender
Anxious or stressed pets can be helped with herbs for pets. Adding extracts of valerian, oats and chamomile will help soothe them naturally. Another option is to add just a dab of lavender oil near the muzzle. Wash dog bedding with a small amount of lavender oil as well for a long term treatment.
Meadowsweet
Pain medications can have serious side effects for some pets. In some situations, you can substitute the herb meadowsweet instead of over the counter meds. This natural pain reliever should be given in small doses as a supplement and only after checking with your vet.
